Padmendra P. Shrestha

Director of Practice, Natural Resource Management and Governance

Padmendra is currently pursuing his Ph.D in School of Geography and Development at  the University of Arizona.

Padmendra is an urban and regional planner with expertise on community based planning and conflict resolution with concentration on natural resource, environment and infrastructure related disputes.

Prior to joining PEI, he was with Niti Foundation where he led a project on “Managing resource based disputes for peace building and economic growth” that built consensus among local citizens to build hydropower projects and tested strategies to resolve water and land related disputes in hydropower projects in Nepal. He is the lead author of the Niti Foundation/International Center for Integrated Mountain Development published comprehensive report that documented and analyzed models and practices of benefit sharing in hydropower projects across Nepal.

He has more than 10 years of experience in working with local communities in Nepal and abroad, including testing community benefits and asset building models for selected neighborhoods impacted by rail transit in urban Honolulu; designing and implementing community engagement process for negotiating community benefits for people affected by construction of wind farm in Hawaii; and in implementing Government of Nepal’s Urban Environmental Improvement Project.
He graduated from the East West Center/University of Hawaii with Master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning and Graduate certificate in conflict resolution
